There are several DJ tutorials out there. Each DJ has their own style and their own way of beat-matching and mixing, but I think that we can all agree that some ways are just more effective and more efficient than others. One important tip is to try to touch the vinyl as little as possible (unless you are scratching) and primarily use the pitch control to speed up or slow down the record. It is risky to attempt to adjust the record with your finger when the record is being heard live, because it can distort or throw the record off-beat, causing you to have to re-match the beats in front of everyone for them to hear. It is also embarassing to say the least. It is unavoidable in some cases however, such as if the records skips. Also we are live Deejays who are imperfect, not a computer program. But with that said, we want to manipulate the record as little as possible with our fingers when mixing especially if that is the record being heard. Also too, we want to avoid using the platter or spindle to speed up or slow down the record. This can actually cause unnecessary wear and tear, especially grabbing the spindle. It was not designed for this. With that said, enjoy the video tutorials! |
